LOCAL INSIGHT

Los Angeles has the largest county economy and higher costs to match

The Southern California Association of Governments' 2025 county report calls Los Angeles County the largest county economy in the United States, with output approaching $1 trillion. In August 2025 health care and social assistance employed 873,500 people, public administration 586,000, accommodation and food service 438,800 and retail 394,600. Those four sectors made up about half the county's jobs. In every one of them customers pick from dozens of nearby options, so a listing and a site that stand out for a specific neighborhood matter more than a broad claim.

The Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation said in February 2025 that doing business in Los Angeles costs about 20% more than the national average, and that preparations for the 2028 Olympics continue to drive infrastructure investment. The county's unemployment rate was 5.9% in August 2025. The Information sector, which covers film, television and digital media, employed about 189,800 people in 2025. With costs that high, ads and a website that turns visits into inquiries have to earn their keep.

Rankwyre builds websites and manages Google and Meta ads for Los Angeles businesses, with separate pages for the neighborhoods and nearby cities a customer is searching. LAEDC's site lists 88 cities in the county, which is a lot of local searches to cover.
