LOCAL INSIGHT

Fairbanks businesses sit between two bases and the aurora season

The Alaska Department of Labor's January 2026 forecast says the Fairbanks area had 9,500 active-duty service members in 2025, across Fort Wainwright and Eielson Air Force Base, and about 9,000 veterans live in the borough. Four KC-135 tankers are expected to start arriving in fall 2026 with about 200 more airmen and their families. A family arriving on orders knows no local business yet, so a clear website and Google listing do the introducing.

Visitors drive a second cycle. Explore Fairbanks sets aurora season from August 21 to April 21 and says the lights show on an average of four of five clear nights. The state labor report adds that international tourists are especially important to Fairbanks, and it puts leisure and hospitality at about 4,400 jobs. Lodges and tour operators sell to people overseas who read the site before they book, and who may first stop at the Morris Thompson Cultural and Visitors Center.

Rankwyre builds websites for Fairbanks lodging, tours and trades that work for visitors reading from abroad. We also run Google and Meta ads that can be raised for aurora season and lowered afterward.

HOW WE WORK

How we work with Fairbanks businesses.

Here is how a project with a Fairbanks business goes, from the first conversation to a live site.

  1. A call, then a number.

We talk through what the business sells and who needs to find it. You get the price in writing before any work starts.

  2. Rough drafts first.

We build the site and send drafts as it comes together, so changes happen while they're still cheap.

  3. Nearby searches, covered.

We set up the Google Business Profile, local listings and a page for each area you serve, so people close by can find you.

  4. Open in a week.

The site launches with hosting and updates included, and we stay reachable for changes after it's live.
