LOCAL INSIGHT

Anchorage runs on cargo and health care, with fewer workers to hire

The Anchorage Economic Development Corporation's January 2025 forecast reported record transportation employment of 13,000 jobs in 2024, a record 3.7 million metric tons of air cargo and a record 5.5 million tons through the Port of Alaska. About one in four Anchorage jobs is held by a nonresident, and working age residents fell from 69 percent of the population in 2014 to 65 percent in 2024. Logistics and service firms that cannot easily hire need customers to find them without extra sales effort.

The August 2026 outlook is mixed. Federal employment in Anchorage fell 8.4 percent in the first half of 2026, and consumer confidence stood at 40.5 out of 100 in July. Health care is the largest industry by employment. A planned $2 billion investment at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is expected to bring about 2,700 new military personnel and families. When shoppers are cautious, search is where the remaining buyers compare options, and newly arrived families have no local habits yet.

Rankwyre builds web apps and CRMs for Anchorage logistics and service companies that need to track jobs and customers, and sets up Google Maps and local listings so people moving near the base find local services quickly.

HOW WE WORK

How we work with Anchorage businesses.

Here's the plain version of how a project runs, from the first call to a live site.

  1. Ask, scope, price.

On a short call we hear what the business needs. You get the scope and the price in writing and decide from there.

  2. Drafts to react to.

We build in drafts and send previews, which gives you time to say what should change before anything is final.

  3. Be found around the municipality.

We handle the Google Business Profile, local listings and service-area pages, so customers around Anchorage find the right information.

  4. Live and looked after.

The site launches with hosting and updates included, and we remain on hand afterward.
