LOCAL INSIGHT

Fort Moore, insurers, and Korean suppliers shape Columbus, Georgia

A late 2023 Georgia Trend outlook from the University of Georgia's Selig Center says Fort Moore makes about one of every five jobs in the Columbus metro a government job. It names Fort Moore as the largest employer, followed by TSYS, Aflac, Piedmont Columbus Regional, St. Francis Emory Healthcare, and Pratt & Whitney, and it credits the large insurance industry with cushioning the economy. Columbus State University's impact in fiscal 2022 was 2,844 jobs. Businesses serving that workforce get found by neighborhood and base searches.

Choose Columbus, the local development group, calls the city the second largest in Georgia, 90 minutes from Atlanta, and lists a $223 million magnet facility from JS LINK, a $120 million bakery expansion by J.M. Smucker, and 480 jobs from BioTouch. Its employer list names Kia, Hyundai Dymos, and Mobis Alabama, so the metro reaches past the state line, and it cites about 2,250 Korean American residents, the second largest Korean population center in Georgia after Atlanta. A business that serves either community should say so plainly on its site.

Rankwyre builds websites and online stores for Columbus businesses and handles the Google Maps and local listings work behind nearby searches. A contractor near Muscogee Technology Park or a clinic near Piedmont Columbus Regional starts with a page that names the area it serves.

HOW WE WORK

How we work with Columbus businesses.

Columbus businesses ask how this works, so here it is in the order it happens.

  1. A call and a price on paper.

We spend a few minutes on what you sell and who buys it. The price is written down before any work begins.

  2. Drafts in your hands.

You see the site as it's being built and tell us what to adjust. We revise until it reads right.

  3. Local listings and maps.

Google Business Profile, local listings and service-area pages go up, so searches around you reach the site.

  4. Open, hosted, maintained.

Launch takes about 7 days for a website, and hosting and updates stay in the monthly price. Support continues afterward.
