Buffalo sells to a medical campus and across a border
The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus covers 120 acres and counted more than 150 companies in 2017. A Buffalo News report that year expected the campus workforce to reach about 15,000, up from 7,000 in 2001, once the John R. Oishei Children's Hospital at 818 Ellicott Street and UB's medical school finished moving in. Patients, staff and visitors all search for nearby food, parking and services, so the businesses around the campus need accurate directions and hours online.
The border matters just as much. The Buffalo Niagara Partnership describes a bi-national region of more than 8 million people and over $400 billion in GDP, with four crossings including the Peace Bridge and Rainbow Bridge. In April 2025 the head of Visit Buffalo Niagara said Canadians typically supply about 35 to 40 percent of regional tourism, and that Canadian trips fell 14 percent in February 2025 from a year earlier. Tesla's RiverBend plant reported about 1,800 jobs at the end of 2023 after New York spent nearly $1 billion on it. A business that depends on one customer group needs a way to reach others.
