LOCAL INSIGHT
Mobile's economy now runs through a 50-foot ship channel
The Alabama Port Authority says the Mobile ship channel reached its authorized 50 foot depth on October 3, 2025, finishing a $425 million state and federal project. Since then 168 vessels with a draft over 45 feet have used it, and the authority closed fiscal year 2026 with revenue near $245 million, up more than 20 percent. The Mobile Chamber's metrics page lists 50.5 million tons of cargo moved, which sets the tone for local trade, shipping and supplier work.
Aerospace is the other story. The chamber calls it the fastest growing industry sector in the area, with 56 percent growth over five years, and the Alabama Aviation Center at Brookley Field trains students for aviation manufacturing. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows 189.0 thousand nonfarm jobs in August 2026, up 1.0 percent, with trade, transportation and utilities at 36.7 thousand and manufacturing at 18.6 thousand.
Rankwyre builds websites for Mobile suppliers, shipping services and contractors that sell to the port, shipbuilders and aerospace plants, with clear pages for capabilities and certifications. We add SEO so a buyer searching for a Mobile vendor finds the page that answers the question.
