LOCAL INSIGHT

Miami sells to travelers moving through its airport and port

Greater Miami drew 27.2 million visitors in 2023 who spent an estimated $21.1 billion, according to the Greater Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau as reported by Meeting Spotlight. Miami International Airport served 52.3 million travelers that year, including 23.2 million international passengers. Tourism supported more than 200,000 jobs in the county. A restaurant or shop that wants those visitors needs correct hours, directions and prices wherever they look.

Trade is the other engine. A 2024 airport study released in July 2025 put the combined impact of Miami International Airport and PortMiami at $242.8 billion, with nearly 1.2 million jobs. PortMiami handled 9.7 million tons of cargo and 7.5 million cruise passengers in 2023, is the closest U.S. port to Latin America and the Caribbean, and houses the global headquarters of Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, MSC and Virgin. The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows 647.4 thousand trade, transportation and utilities jobs in the metro area in August 2026.

Rankwyre is based in Miami and builds online stores for sellers who ship beyond the county, plus Google Maps and local listings for the restaurants, shops and tour operators near Miami Beach, the airport corridor and the cruise terminals.
