LOCAL INSIGHT

Charlotte's banks and airport draw customers from two states

A Charlotte Regional Business Alliance article from February 2022 said the city has nine Fortune 500 and 17 Fortune 1000 companies and ranks as the second largest banking center in the country behind New York, with Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Truist in town. It also reported 267 attorneys from Atlanta and Miami firms working in Charlotte, up 40 percent since 2016. Professional firms win work on trust, and a buyer checks a firm's website before calling.

Charlotte Douglas International Airport handled 53.6 million passengers in 2025, is the second largest American Airlines hub, and is credited with a $39.7 billion impact on the Carolinas and 184,400 jobs. A $4 billion expansion called Destination CLT is under way. The metro also crosses a state line. Census estimates reported in 2019 showed York County, South Carolina, growing about 3 percent to 274,118 residents and Lancaster County to 95,380, while Mecklenburg County had 1,093,901. A customer in York or Lancaster County still searches for Charlotte.

Rankwyre builds websites and web apps and CRMs for Charlotte firms that serve Uptown offices, and works on SEO so those firms appear for searches from across the metro.
