Aurora has a medical campus, big manufacturers and a new aerotropolis
The City of Aurora says it has over 418,000 people and more than 150,000 jobs. The CU Anschutz Medical Campus sits on the former Fitzsimons Army Hospital site, covers 256 acres and has two hospital partners, Children's Hospital Colorado and UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital. A VA medical center opened beside it in 2019. CU Anschutz says it contributed $5.7 billion to Colorado's economy in 2025 and supports 27,400 jobs. Clinics, suppliers and food businesses nearby depend on patients and staff finding them online.
A December 2025 Denver Gazette column describes the Aurora Economic Development Council recruiting employers that bring in outside money. Philip Morris International chose Aurora for a large manufacturing facility, and Raytheon is cited as a high wage employer. The city has added the Anschutz campus, E-470 corridor development and the emerging Aerotropolis. Companies supplying those employers need to be found by buyers outside the city.
