LOCAL INSIGHT

Colorado passed six million people as growth slowed

Colorado reached 6,012,561 residents on July 1, 2025, growing 0.4 percent, just under the national 0.5 percent, according to the State Demography Office. Births rose 4.6 percent to 65,380. Net domestic migration was negative for the first time since 2004, with 12,100 more people leaving than arriving, while 15,356 more international migrants arrived than left. Slower growth gives a business fewer new residents to reach, so being found by the ones already there matters more.

The U.S. Small Business Administration counts 730,887 small businesses, which employ 48.6 percent of Colorado workers, and professional, scientific and technical services leads at 124,307 firms. Of those classifiable by location, 91,379 were rural and 560,845 urban. The Bureau of Labor Statistics lists Denver, Boulder, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, Greeley and Pueblo as metros. Trade, transportation and utilities is the largest job sector at 502,400 of 2.97 million in August 2026 (preliminary), and the unemployment rate was 4.0 percent. Each of those seven metros is its own search market.

Rankwyre builds websites and handles Google Maps and local listings for Colorado businesses remotely, at the same price as every other state.
