LOCAL INSIGHT

Virginia Beach balances 14.3 million visitors with Navy payrolls

A Tourism Economics study published in October 2025 found that 14.3 million visitors spent $2.6 billion in Virginia Beach in 2024, for a total economic impact of $3.9 billion. Visitor activity supported 34,076 jobs, which is 19.0% of all jobs in the city. Hotels, restaurants, rentals and shops depend on people who search for a place to eat, stay or play before they arrive, so the website and the Maps listing are the storefront.

The city's 2025 employer list shows how much the Navy matters: Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek, Fort Story has 5,020 civilian employees and Naval Air Station Oceana, Dam Neck has 4,500, next to Sentara Healthcare at 4,900, GEICO at 3,600 and the North American headquarters of STIHL at 3,300. The city runs YesOceana, a program with relocation incentives for businesses in the aircraft accident zone near Oceana. Contractors and suppliers that sell to those employers need to be easy to vet online.

Rankwyre builds sites for Virginia Beach visitor businesses and sets up Google Maps and local listings for each location. For contractors and suppliers we build web apps and CRMs that keep bids and repeat customers organized.

HOW WE WORK

How we work with Virginia Beach businesses.

A project here goes through four stages, and the first thing you get from us is a price in writing.

  1. Scoping, in one call.

We go over the business, the pages and what you want it to do. Then we put the cost down in writing before building.

  2. Drafts as we go.

You'll see previews while the site is built and can flag anything that's off. We rework it until you approve.

  3. Grow into local search.

Google Business Profile, local listings and service-area pages get set up so searches nearby can lead to the business.

  4. Launch plus aftercare.

A website launches in about 7 days. Hosting and updates are in the plan, and so is support after it's live.
