LOCAL INSIGHT

Kansas City, Kansas has five districts and two sales tax measures on the November ballot

The local visitor bureau splits Kansas City, Kansas into five regions: West, Downtown, Midtown, Northeast and South. West is known for shopping and sports, with Sporting Park, Atlas9 and the Margaritaville Hotel, plus Legends Outlets and Kansas Speedway. Downtown has murals, taquerias and a dive bar scene, and the Northeast is tied to the Underground Railroad. A taqueria downtown and a store near the speedway are reaching different searchers, so each needs its own listing and its own page.

Health care and public money drive the rest. The University of Kansas Medical Center on Rainbow Boulevard lists more than 1,500 faculty, 21 accredited residency programs and the only National Cancer Institute designated cancer center in the region. The Unified Government has two sales tax measures on the November 3, 2026 ballot, a countywide 0.25% for homelessness and health and a 0.375% city tax for parks, streets and sidewalks, with collection starting April 1, 2027 if passed. Its economic development division also aims to grow technology, services and tourism, and expands support for small business.

Rankwyre builds websites and Google and Meta ads for businesses in these districts, so a shop near Legends or a practice near the medical center reaches the customers around it instead of the whole metro.
