LOCAL INSIGHT

Las Cruces runs on health care, government and chile and pecan farms

The December 2025 Arrowhead Center study of Doña Ana County puts the county at 219,870 people in 2022, with Las Cruces home to 111,273 of them, or 50.6%. It counted 16,116 health care jobs, 8,390 in accommodation and food, 8,003 in retail and 8,836 in federal and state government in 2023. The study ties the federal figure to White Sands Missile Range and the NASA White Sands Test Facility, and the state figure to New Mexico State University. Half the county lives outside the city, so a business here serves a wider area than the city limits suggest.

Agriculture is a base industry as well, with 2,401 jobs in 2023, which the study credits to local chile and pecan producers who sell locally and globally. The city's business guide calls Las Cruces the economic center of southern New Mexico and lists the Las Cruces Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, active since 1991, and the Mesilla Valley Economic Development Alliance. Spaceport America reports 6,000 square miles of restricted airspace. A site for a Las Cruces business can reasonably offer pages in both English and Spanish.

Rankwyre builds websites and runs SEO for Las Cruces businesses, from a clinic that needs patients across the Mesilla Valley to find it to a grower who wants to sell past the valley with an online store.
