LOCAL INSIGHT

Utah added 44,351 residents in a year, mostly from births

Utah's population reached an estimated 3,551,150 on July 1, 2025, according to the Utah Population Committee, which the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute staffs. The state added 44,351 residents, a 1.3 percent rise that was down from 1.5 percent a year earlier. Natural change supplied 57 percent of the growth, the first time this decade births outweighed migration. Utah County added the most people (15,914), followed by Salt Lake (8,281), Washington (4,751) and Tooele (2,466) counties, and Tooele and Iron counties grew fastest at 3.0 percent each. Growth is spreading beyond the usual center, so a business has to be found in the town where new households settle.

Utah had 371,569 small businesses in 2025, per the SBA Office of Advocacy, with 690,069 small business employees. Professional, scientific and technical services leads with 62,543 businesses, ahead of real estate and rental (48,058) and construction (35,362). Utah exporters numbered 3,801 in 2023 and shipped goods worth $16.4 billion. The state's business site cites a January 2026 WalletHub ranking of Utah as the second best state to start a business, which suggests new competitors keep arriving. A newly founded firm competes for the same searches as one that has operated for years.

New websites from Rankwyre launch in about 7 days, from $399 a month plus a $299 one time setup. SEO from $599 a month builds visibility in the specific towns a business serves, from Utah County to Tooele and Iron counties.
