LOCAL INSIGHT

New Jersey has 979,000 small businesses and 124 million visits

New Jersey has 979,085 small businesses, 99.6 percent of its firms, employing 48.4 percent of workers, according to the SBA Office of Advocacy. Professional, scientific and technical services is the largest group at 151,497, followed by transportation and warehousing at 133,400 and real estate at 120,987, most with no employees. Between March 2022 and March 2023 the state opened 39,430 establishments and closed 31,349. Solo operators in a crowded field depend on search to stand out.

The BLS counts 4,247,800 covered jobs in March 2026 at 343,397 establishments, with an average weekly wage of $1,879. The 15 largest counties hold 88.6 percent of jobs, and Bergen is largest at 431,900, so a shop in Bergen competes with many others nearby. The state's tourism division reported 123.7 million visitors in 2024, including 69.9 million day trips, spending a record $50.6 billion and supporting 507,833 jobs, about one in 12.

Rankwyre builds websites and online stores for New Jersey businesses and tunes the Google Maps listing for the specific town, so a shop in Bergen County does not have to share a search result with one from another county. Day visitors who decide on the spot need hours and directions on the first screen.

HOW WE WORK

How we work with New Jersey businesses.

A New Jersey business goes through four steps with us. Each is short and the price is fixed at the first.

  1. Scope and price call.

A short call on your goals, then a written price. Work begins only after you've agreed.

  2. Drafts to react to.

We build the pages in stages and send previews. Websites generally finish in about 7 days.

  3. Findable in your area.

Google Business Profile, local listings and service-area pages go in for the places you serve.

  4. Launch and keep it fresh.

We host the site, run updates, and stay on hand after launch.
