LOCAL INSIGHT
Louisville's biggest employer runs a 5.2 million square foot air hub
UPS says Worldport, its largest package handling facility in the world, is in Louisville. The hub covers 5.2 million square feet, handles 300 daily flights and sorts more than 400,000 packages an hour. UPS says it employs over 20,000 people in the greater Louisville area and is the largest employer in the city, and that the hub can reach 95% of the US population in four hours of flying. A city built around shipping has plenty of local businesses that sell outside the metro, so product pages and shipping details matter for them.
The University of Louisville says it is one of the nation's first city owned public universities, with more than 25,000 students, 38% of them first generation as of fall 2025 and 30% from outside Kentucky. The city also runs on an events calendar. Visit Louisville lists the annual fall racing meet in October and a holiday light show at the Louisville Mega Cavern, and the Kentucky Derby's own history page traces the race through its radio and television years. Seasonal demand means a restaurant, hotel or shop needs fresh pages for each event.
Rankwyre builds online stores and web apps and CRMs for Louisville businesses, such as a distributor that wants an order dashboard or a local maker that sells past the state line.
