LOCAL INSIGHT

Laramie's economy runs through one university with statewide reach

The University of Wyoming reported 10,819 students on the 15th day of fall 2025 classes, up slightly from 10,813 a year earlier. Of those, 2,058 are online degree seeking students and 7,948 are Wyoming residents. A 2024 impact study from the university's Center for Business and Economic Analysis counted 5,868 UW employees in Albany County and found UW employees working in every county in the state. Laramie is a small market where one institution sets the calendar, so a local business has to be easy to find when students arrive, leave and return.

Wyoming's Department of Workforce Services reported that Albany County added 99 jobs, a 0.6% gain, between the first quarter of 2024 and the first quarter of 2025, and that payroll grew 4.8%. The gains came in construction, state government, local government, retail, manufacturing and information. That is slow, steady growth tied to public payrolls, so owners here win by being the obvious local choice rather than by outspending bigger markets.

Rankwyre sets up Google Maps and local listings for Laramie businesses so a search for a service near the University of Wyoming shows the right hours and address. Student traffic is seasonal, so Rankwyre also builds websites that can carry semester specials and summer hours without a redesign.
